Cross Country

The sun came out for us on Friday 19th August (2016)

for our Leabank School cross country races.

Room 5 ran the Year 1 races and cheered their school mates on during the other races.

Well done to everyone that participated!

Special mention to the children in Room 5 who achieved the following placings:

Feed The Need

We are very grateful for the food we received through Feed the Need.

As this initiative is now over for the year we have been writing thank you notes to show our gratitude. In class we used our alphabet and word cards to sound out new words like 'lunch', 'burrito', and 'yummy'. We had teacher help to copy down words like 'thank you'. We are continuing to learn to use finger spaces between our words as we write, and to keep our letters at a good size to fit on the lines in our exercise books.

The final day for Feed the Need lunches was 18.08.16. Thank you to those that put in all their effort and time to help us have delicious hot meals twice a week in our classroom. We are very grateful!

Patterns in Maths

Check out the latest Algebra learning that we've achieved in Room 5.

We have been pushing ourselves further with understanding and talking about patterns in our classroom.

We are looking at trickier patterns, and beginning to explain what is happening with the patterns using some basic maths words.

We are also starting to notice when a pattern isn't quite right, and what we need to do in order to fix it.

Maths in Room 5

We are learning to recognise, describe, carry on, and create patterns. 

This helps us prepare for algebra in maths.

We have learned that:

- a pattern repeats itself (red, yellow, red, yellow, red, yellow....)
- we can carry on a pattern that has been started

We are beginning to create our own patterns, too.
